I wanted to talk about the film industry in Sri Lanka today because I believe we
need to evolve by looking at global trends, and I have a great passion for the
film industry. Sri Lanka has a rich history and a strong cultural identity. When
the opportunity arises to produce quality work, we often limit ourselves to
basic, enclosed projects. By creating compelling content, Sri Lanka can
transform our productions into global phenomena through distribution services
like Disney, Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video. Although it may require significant
initial investment, it is essential to think about the future. Series like Money
Heist have shown that language is not a barrier to good content.
Another issue
is that many filmmakers in Sri Lanka focus primarily on comedy and historical
films (often of low quality). I believe we can expand into genres such as
sci-fi, fantasy, horror, adventure, and thriller. There are creators with
excellent ideas in Sri Lanka. My ultimate desire and hope is to create a
successful film franchise of our own, utilizing advanced technologies, strong
and productive teamwork, from post-production to distribution!
